Description: This route takes us to the province of Sfakia, a “wild” area on the Southwest coast of Crete. Our starting point is the village Anopoli which was the birthplace of the most famous Cretan Rebel during the Ottoman Occupation: Daskaloyiannis. The village lies at 580 meters height, on the southern slopes of the White Mountains. Soon after our start we are already rewarded with a splendid view of the Libyan Sea, Gavdos island and the bay and village of Loutro. After nearly reaching the coast we climb back up again to Livaniana where we can have a break for a refreshment or a snack. The trail leads through the highest part of this village and takes us to the eastern edge of the Aradena Gorge. We enter this wild and rugged gorge from the side and find ourselves right in the middle of it. We follow its course towards the south. Our ultimate reward is the arrival at Marmara Beach, where we can cool down in the crystal clear waters of the Lybian Sea. We can also enjoy a meal at the small restaurant in the bay. After our stay here we have to do a short walk that will take us to the meeting point from where our transfer is arranged.
